RAF Henlow

The Royal Air Force has had a base at Henlow since 1916 at which time the service was still the “Royal Flying Corps”. It is one of only seven original RAF stations still open today, making it one of the oldest airbases in the UK.

616 Squadron

Based at RAF Henlow and operates throughout the year training ATC air cadets on Grob Vigilant motor gliders. Active most weekend and frequently running induction courses 616 VGS is the RAFs only flying unit based permanently at Henlow.

Police 382

Bedfordshire polices’ Chiltern Air Support Unit (CASU) is also based at RAF Henlow and operates full time in conjunction with their sister unit at RAF Benson to provide police air support using an EC135 helicopter. The unit dates back to 1963.
